I heard that a laptop under $1,000 is a value laptop, and this is a great value laptop. It has a fast processor and the build quality (made in Japan) is top-notch. This is my family's 4th LifeBook and we also own several Sony VAIOs, two HPs (the worst!!!), a Lenovo (best overall performance per specs), and three Sharp notebooks (really good, but no longer sold in the U.S.). My first LifeBook is almost 10 years old and still going strong; my dad uses it daily to make movies of my kids. Anyway, the AH550 is well equipped and a great bang for the buck. It feels fast and the screen is bright and vibrant. Now, one potential shortcoming for road warriors is the battery life is just okay, but this doesn't concern me because I use it at my desk, on AC power. (I use my 3-lb. Sharp, also well equipped adn made in Japan, for travels.) Oh, another thing I like about the AH550 is its keyboard is spill-resistant, great around kids. :) -Dr. Ann
This product has a very high performance/cost ratio. It is good for anyone who want a powerful moving desktop replacement.
The only defect of this product might be the sound of graphics card. I can work in a noisy circumstance but the problem is the sound frequently turns up and down. This makes me uncomfortable. In my opinion, the sound is ok for a desktop but too much for a laptop.
Overall this is a v. solid computer with all the great features you need, some v. minor issues that would make it a 5-star all around!
Pros: 1) Great configurations (500 GB hard drive, 4 GB memory) at a reasonable price 2) Ports (4 USB!!, HDMI, etc.) selection is excellent and placement of these ports is v. user-friendly 3) Keyboard v. comfortable to type on 4) Build is solid with some minor flex only at center of lid when closed 5) Great webcam, it's 2.0M, not 1.3M on most other computers 6) Great addition of the dust filter!
Cons (most aren't that critical): 1) The glossy finish makes it easier to attract dust or get scratched 2) (v. minor issue) you have to hold the Fn key to access "Home," "End," and "Prt Sc" keys 3) The fan gets a little loud when running some memory-intensive applications 4) The screen is glossy and quite reflective - not extremely clear if you want to watch something under sunlight
I bought this AH550 computer because the first Fujitsu notebook I purchased became my favorite friend in terms of work and home computering. It was a workhorse with outstanding reliability, never letting me down. It traveled with me to may places over 6 years. The AH550 Core I5 has brilliant colors and is very fast. It works as expected. It's 5+ hour battery life is plus.
