As a long time Fujitsu owner, I can't recommend their products enough. Our business is automotive engine management manipulation, and we employ several notebooks for this purpose. Since 2005, we have not had a single Fujitsu failure, and our laptops are treated fairly roughly. The fact that Fujitsu makes notebooks with the latest Intel chipsets and still provide legacy interface support, specifically serial ports, means that we can provide cutting edge support for our customers. We also use our notebooks for other purposes, and the feature packed Lifebooks give us everything that we demand of them. Thanks Fujitsu, keep up the good work! Staff-Church Automotive Testing
Great computer because it has a serial port (9 pin) and cardbus and express card slots. Unfortunately the cardbus is not standard and will not work with software we purchased the system for.
Also, Fujitsu has yet to send us a set of workable upgrade boot and recovery disks for W7 64 bit.
We have owned 7 Fujitus's in the last 10 year and all other were outstanding. So we are wondering what happened to Fujitsu ?
a high quality machine. runs at stable temp. vivid display. comfortable keyboard.

Pros: Battery Life
Cons: lost the "click me" connecting to wireless
I had some problems with my unit and the company was very generous in providing a replacement. This laptop works in spite of all my mistakes! A lot of value for the price.
after owning a used Fujitsu T4210 Lifebook for three years and having virtually no problems with it i pretty much knew that my next laptop was going to be a Fujitsu. I was amazed when i found out that I could bid on new products from the Fujitsu store on E bay and was even more amazed that I won a New E780 Lifebook at half the retail price. I have had the laptop for about two months now and apart from having some small software glitches the computer has worked flawlessly for me.

Cons: Weight, Durability
Years ago it was fijitsu that use to make products for apple. You would think some of that build quality would have followed, it did not. Can’t say anything about reliability due to age, would take a year or two for that. The unit has a very cheap plastic feel, not even good plastic. If you dropped this laptop, you would through it away after that. The best thing about the unit is it came with a host of cd's instead of you’d typical recovery partition. That I liked. If fujitsu wants to be a real contender in the market and gain back some of its share like it had in the 90's its need to rethink the build quality. Many people are looking for that as much as cpu, memory and drive. For the price, it is a powerhouse.
I've been testing the e780 in a corporate environment with Windows 7/PGP/Office2010. This laptop is a solid performer for the office. Only issue is that HDMI requires an adapter from DP to HDMI.
I upgraded my Fujitsu to a true desk top replacement, Windows 7 (64bit) lets me have several heavy duty programs open at the same time without bogging the system down. I am looking forward to the same level of reliability that I had with my former Fujitsu laptop.

I needed a machine to cary with me to program customer telephone and data systems. I selecter the E780 for it's size and features. I am very happy with the system and mostly the battery life.
We are heavy users of our laptops as software developers. Been buying Fujitsu since 2005 and could not be more happy. Very good customer service, and they are flexible with the customer's requests. Fast shipping.
Durability is my main reason for choosing these machines. My laptop is on 24/7, for last 4 years, used as a desktop and server at times. Never once a encountered any maintenance issues. All five of our laptops are working good after years of use.

Pros: Battery Life, comes with a modem, higher screen resolution
Cons: Design, Keyboard, no option for 64bit os, pointing stick worthless
I have had my LifeBook E780 for about 30 days and I’m a little disappointed.
Solidly built, no cheap looking/feeling parts. My disappointment is in the design.
The keyboard is my biggest disappointment. There are other keyboards from other manufactures that I prefer much more, but those laptops lacked a modem. (I was not able to find the E780 in a brick & mortar.)
Other minor complaints would be the Status Indicator Panel. When the lid is closed, this panel is not easily visible. The Panel would better in the one of the hinges, where it can be seen easily with the display lid open or closed. There are three lights to indicate battery status; battery 1 & 2, and battery charging. The battery charging light remains green even if there are no batteries; what is the power indicator for then? Battery status 1 & 2 turn solid green when the battery is charged 51-100%. I would have like to seen solid green at 91-100% blinking green at 81-90% solid orange at 61-80% blinking orange at 41-60% blinking red at 21-40% solid red under 20%.
Three of the four USB ports are on the right side next to the CD tray. If you have several devices plugged in with cables (i.e. printer, mouse, external disk drive), it makes opening/closing of the CD tray awkward. Move two of the three ports to the left side of the laptop, where there are no moving parts.
The speakers have poor sound reproduction quality. Even the Realtek Audio Manager software (included) can’t compensate.
The pointing stick is at the same level as the G,H & B keys, it needs to be raised up like on a ThinkPad.
For a desktop replacement, would have like to seen 64 bit OS standard, or at least the option to upgrade; 32 bit only. When I tried to install my own OS, got the Blue Screen of Death four times, gave up on my own OS after that. Stop: 7B with a secondary code of 34.
Would I buy the LifeBook E780 again, No.
Pros:
1) Like the fact that the laptop is loaded only with Windows, and none of that worthless trial software. Several software CDs are enclosed, so you can choose what to or not to install.
2) 5800 mAh battery life is good, worth the upgrade.
3) I do like the higher screen resolution (1600x900) compared to other 15” systems, worth the upgrade.
4) Runs quiet, very little noise from the disk drive, CPU fan a little bit loud.
5) Comes with a modem.
------------- Cons: 1) Auto/Air power supply large and bulky, not convenient when on an airplane.
2) Shock Sensor software, (with a setting of Normal), activates occasionally when opening/closing the CD tray.
3) Removing the main battery with one hand is not easy while holding the laptop upside-down with the other hand.
4) Keyboard needs improvement. (My biggest reason for disliking the E780). Top row of function keys too small. PgUp/PgDn keys should be over/under instead of side-by-side Fn key should be bigger Home and End keys should not require pushing the Fn key simultaneously
5) As a desktop replacement, I would have thought it would have come standard with 64-bit OS, or at least have the option to upgrade; 32-bit only. Makes upgrading to 4 Meg of memory questionable. When I attempted to install my own OS, got the Blue Screen of Death four times. Stop: 7B with a secondary code of 34.
6) Pointing stick is too low to be of any value. Same height as G/H/B keys.
7) Poor speaker reproduction quality
------------- Suggested improvements:
1) My previous laptop had a night light, would like to see one here. (Light was built-in to the top edge of the display panel and could be turned on by hitting the lower left and upper right keys.)
2) Would be nice to be able to substitute your own Windows response file when reinstalling the OS from the enclosed Recovery OS CD.
