Great for Legacy Ports
Date: February 13, 2010
Pros: Design, Features, parallel port, serial port, modular bay
If you need parallel and serial ports for old hardware communications, this is the laptop for you. I use it with automotive and industrial controls and it works great. I tried express card to parallel and USB to parallel converters and they only worked with some of my hardware. Good keyboard and the optional 1680x1050 screen looks great. The screen portion of the case is metal but the plastic bottom half feels a little flimsy. If you don't need the legacy ports, you can get somthing less expensive with similar power.

A Good Desktop Replacement
Date: September 21, 2009
Pros: Design, Battery Life, Screen Size, Weight, Keyboard
Cons: Keyboard
I bought this computer two weeks ago. It is very robust and fast. I use this computer all day long and it is never hot. Downgrading Vista to Windows XP was not only a breeze but free. Most brands will charge you extra for Windows XP downgrade.
It is an excellent desktop replacement... it is not that heavy either. I strongly recommend this laptop for business applications and for those who travels a lot and do serious business computing.

Modified 8420 Special Order - Best of the Best
Date: July 7, 2009
Pros: Battery Life, Screen Size, Weight, Keyboard, Features, Security, fastest possible platform in a laptop
Cons: feels a tad fragile, no fusion finish (case)
High End Custom Order built in Japan/shipped with every possible extra and upgrade available (I excluded keyboard pointer intentionally but absolutely like the double (4) right/ left click buttons, fingerprint security...).
Right side bottom of case squeaks a little (not tight) but make no mistake that I am very pleased with the unit, it's capabilities & overall Fujitsu Product. I have bought high-end Sony, HP, Compact, etc. and am sick of their constant problems, defects and service problems. Ever since Acer took over Gateway that too is a nightmare.
As to technical issues, let me just say without a bunch of techno-bable that the unit is excellent and I have no need for a bunch of low-end consumer bell & whistles (sleep & charge, backlit keyboards, etc.). I much prefer the numerous interface capabilities with different ports and devices; and getting good use out of the dedicated Turbo Ram flash memory button with ANOTHER 4GB DDR3 RAM. I am hopeful Fujitsu will switchover to the 64-bit operating system with the advent of Windows 7; I surely intend to try.
Respectfully submitted.

Very durable and reliable!
Date: June 4, 2009
Pros: Design, Screen Size, Durability, Keyboard, Features, Security
Cons: Battery Life
My computer was made to order from Osaka, Japan. The battery life is about 3 hours if using during a lecture. It's on the heavy side to carry around. This is a great alternative a desktop. I usually leave this on all day and it doesn't get hot.

Very happy
Date: June 1, 2009
Pros: Screen Size, Weight, Features
Cons: Keyboard
Performance is better than I had expected. Love the fingerprint sensor. The anti-glare screen is sharp and contrast/brightness is great. My main gripe is that there are no home or end keys.

Great in many ways - perfect for business users
Date: May 21, 2009
Pros: Design, Battery Life, Screen Size, Durability, Weight, Keyboard, Features, Security
This laptop has the right balance of power, portability, performance and features. I have had mine for about a year now and absolutely love it. I used to have an N series system which was great, but was too heavy. The E8420 is great. I highly recommend the E8420 to anyone looking for a great business system.

I love Fujitsu laptops
Date: May 10, 2009
Pros: Design, Battery Life, Screen Size, Keyboard, Security, full set of recovery disks
Cons: little pricy but worth it
I have not bought a total of 4 Fujitsu laptops and have always been impressed with them. I like to no nonesense simple clean design, they usually come with Vista Business, and more importantly they just work really well. Over many years with these laptops I have yet to have a problem and with this model I've basically quit using it over my larger/faster desktop PC for a number of reasons including the super fast way to comes to life from standby mode. Love it!

I like my E8420
Date: April 17, 2009
Pros: Design, Battery Life, Screen Size, Durability, Features
I purchased the E8420 and it is a very nice labtop.
My major requirements were I needed Windows XP on
a powerful CPU and high resolution anti-glare screen.
The E8420 had all these and more. Everything is working
great so far and I am sure it will for a long time.
Like other reviewers, this is my 3rd Fujitsu labtop and
I think they are good and solid machines.

DOA, but hopeful
Date: March 14, 2009
Pros: Screen Size, Durability, Keyboard, Features
Cons: arrived doa, i had to pay for rma shipping
My E8410 arrived DOA -- black screen, no power most times; the 1 or 2 times it did power on it halted during POST and printed error code and diagnostic message to call support.
I did, and the phone support person was helpful in the basic troubleshooting, then issued an RMA# to send the laptop back for repair. NOTE: shipping is at my expense, which doesn't seem right to me for a brand new laptop under warranty which I've never used.
Nevertheless, this is my 2nd Fujitsu laptop (first is P7120, which I really like) and I am hopeful the repair will be handled quickly and with no further cost to me.
My ratings are obviously diminished by the out-of-the-box experience, but would be much higher if the new laptop arrived intact and working -- this model has a good mix of features and functionality for my needs, and I would be happy to revisit and re-review after my new laptop is repaired or replaced.

A great buy
Date: March 13, 2009
Pros: Design, Screen Size, Durability, Keyboard, Features, Security, xp conversion
Cons: Battery Life, vista
Over the past 5 years I have purchased 6 Fujitsu Laptops. 1 for myself and the rest for my clients. They love them and I love them. I dont' get call asking for help or repairs. To me that says alot.
My E8420 is quick, the screen is bright, and just keeps on working. I customized my system with more ram and a larger hard disk, it was delivered quickly and on time.
Thanks Fujitsu for making a solid reliable product.

Good Dev Laptop
Date: December 30, 2008
Pros: Design, Battery Life, Screen Size, Durability, Keyboard, few on board programs, parallel port
We have purchased these laptops due to the fact that they ship with a parallel port so our software engineers can use them in development with the controllers they work with. They are very low maintence machines and ship with a lot less programs than most vendors are sending their computers out the door with these days (namely Toshiba).

My E8420
Date: December 19, 2008
Pros: Design, Battery Life, Screen Size, Durability, Weight, Keyboard, Features, Security
Hello Technology Digerati’s, My E8420 is the fifth Laptop I have purchased from Fujitsu over the years.
It is Awesome; I only wish it came with at least 250+ GIG of hard drive. Vista has a nice layout, but too many other issues. I reverted to XP Pro, with absolutely no troubles.
My E8420 is YAR, Fast, Agile, and easy to Handle…
Fujitsu is on the cutting edge with Technology and Customer Service…

Good laptop
Date: December 18, 2008
Pros: Design, Screen Size, Keyboard, Security
Cons: Weight, Features
The matte screen is really good for using under light about 3/4 meter. I bought one with one gig. Windows xp worked really well but there were some problems with the atheros wifi. Whenever I boot my laptop the next morning the atheros icon disappears and i cannot use atheros client utility. Vista seems to be working well so far since I upgraded my ram.
The black and white led lights seems old but it's not distracting. Thumbs up for the cd drive. It's simple to remove/insert.
Cannot use 64 bit. I could not install vista x64. Design is nice. It has fans on the sides and not under the laptop.
overall its a good laptop. nice screen. track pad is really smooth. Fast with 3 gig ram. So far just a tiny problem with wireless.
