Tablet Functionality is GARBAGE.
Date: November 14, 2009
Pros: Design, Screen Size, Weight
Cons: Keyboard, Features, tablet functionality, display
I purchased this as a replacement for my 4-year-old Tablet PC by a different company. The whole reason I use Tablet PC's in the first place is because I'm a digital artist and it's more convenient to color directly on the screen that to go through the learning curve of a traditional tablet... unless you're using a Lifebook T1010.
The tablet functionality is pretty much worthless. The pen packaged with the computer is a glorified stylus, no more sophisticated than one packaged with a palm pilot or a Nintendo DS. The computer never actually recognizes the pen as a pen, it will only work with the touch screen options enabled. And because of this, the computer can't even track the pen tip, something that my 4-year-old computer did right out of the box. On top of that, when the touch screen option is enabled, it assumes you're using your finger, and this obnoxious transparent mouse appears on the screen and gets in the way. Finally, the screen rotation doesn't feature a full 360 degrees of rotation, so if you want a landscape view, you'll have to physically pick up and flip around the computer. It's no one BIG problem, but several small ones that manage to annoy in spades.
All that being said, the regular computer functions work just fine, but when one buys a Tablet PC, one should probably get a tablet that works in more than the loosest sense of the term.

Using 3 in my office
Date: October 31, 2009
During my conversion to electronic medical records, we needed to upgrade our hardware with convertible tablets. We have currently of a dell which is just OK, a toshiba, which has mechanical issues, a IBM which has some connectivity issues. Shortly after purchasing the first T1010 I saw the benefits and have purchased two more. While there is some truth of the issues with passive vs. active stylus, it is a minor issue.

Can't use this as a tablet or with a projector
Date: October 3, 2009
Pros: Design, Screen Size, Keyboard
Cons: Features, no 180 rotation
I bought this tablet PC to use in a classroom for instruction. I flipped the screen around to use the tablet feature and it doesn't rotate the image 180 degrees - the position it needs to be in to use it as a tablet - what's known on all other tablets as "secondary landscape". The only choice is to turn the whole unit around so the cables stick out the front. This is unacceptable. I checked the web and found other PC brands with intel graphics chips are OK with a new driver. Went to the intel site and ran the detection software and the T1010 has a custom version of the driver and can't be updated. Unless I can find a suitable driver that allows for proper rotation, I'll take it back.

Dont Buy For Engineering
Date: August 27, 2009
Pros: Battery Life
Cons: Design, Features
This computers screen is not nearly as advanced as the better models. Yes, you can use your finger to work the screen, but thats probably the biggest disadvantage of this model. When you try to write something on your notes, or whatever your trying to write, you cannot have any part of your hand on the screen while you write (the screen not only senses the stylus, but your hand also). This flaw creates either really messy handwriting because your hand has nothing to rest on while you right, or completely illegible writing because the cursor will shoot back in between the stylus and your hand. Besides that its not bad. Definitely quick enough for anything you want to do. The scroll sensors on mine did not work right out of the box either. I would suggest spending a little more money and getting a computer that works if you really need it for the electronic writing capabilities.

Durable Computer
Date: June 30, 2009
I've been using my Fujitsu Lifebook for almost 3 years now, and overall I like it better than any computer I have ever owned. I'm an engineering professor, and in summer 2006 I decided that I wanted to get involved with distance education and felt that I needed a tablet PC so I could do office hours for distance students. The IT folks picked out the fujitsu for me - I just said that I wanted something they would be willing to support. I thought it would probably require a lot of maintenance. I was wrong - the little computer has never failed me. I've taken it all over the world - I use it almost every day - it is the best computer I've ever owned.
One of the things I like about this computer compared to other laptops is that I can really hold it on my lap while I sit in the recliner at home. Other laptops get too hot and it is uncomfortable on my legs. My two kids have different laptops - one has a mac and the other a generic laptop with a monster screen. Both get too hot to really use them as a laptop - you need to put them on a table. The little fujitsu is tolerable. not cool - it could be better - but tolerable.
Even after 3 years the computer seems to run fast enough to do everything i need to do. The uiversity has offered to replace it with a new one, but I plan to keep what I have. I still run XP and Office 2003 - I'm afraid to upgrade because I'm afraid the computer may not be powerful enough to run VISTA and the new office. My fujitsu does not have a built in webcam, so I have had to clip on a webcam when I use Skype or want to record video. I notice that the new version comes with a built in webcam.
The tablet responds beautifully and I have used it extensively in teaching class and doing office hours. These days I bring it to even the regular classrooms to teach and let it drive the projector. You can do so much more with at tablet than a chalkboard. It's been a great teaching tool.
My complaints are that the built in microphone on mine is awful - I had to buy external wired and wireless microphones for distance education. The bluetooth didn't work either - I had to buy an exteral bluetooth gizmo. Those things were new back when I got this machine, so hopefully they have fixed the problems with the new version. I'll probably keep this computer one more year and then get a new fujitsu.

Outstanding Performance; Outstanding Looks!
Date: May 23, 2009
Pros: Design, Battery Life, Screen Size, Durability, Weight, Keyboard, Features, Security, connection, performance, display/ graphics
Cons: no wwan option with my t1010 but not a major issu
I bought my wonderful Fujitsu Lifebook T1010 back in October, 2008. Ever since I saw this laptop and the T5010 advertise, I was stricken by their sleek design and looks. I really wanted to get the T5010, but decided to try the T1010 out since it costed less, and I don't regret it for a second (Not taking anything at all from the T5010 though, because either the T5010 or the U820 will be my next laptop).
I just love my Lifebook T1010. It is incredibly fast and always stays connected. I haven't had one issue with this laptop/ tablet pc. And Windows Vista works superbly hand in hand with this laptop. The graphics display is exceptional, and the design of this beauty is sleek and appealing. It almost looks as though it's from a futuristic space-age time. It is just an amazing looking laptop/ tablet pc.
And now for the best part. It orignally comes with DDR3 1066 Mhz. RAM, 2 gb. This, along with the zippy-fast 2.2 ghz Core 2 Duo processor, already makes this laptop a hig-tech speedy performer. But today I was blessed with ordering 4 gb RAM for my Lifebook T1010. I already have a brand new Seagate 320 gb 7200 rpm hard drive to install in it, but I am waiting for my new RAM. And although Intel's dedicated graphics is heading the visual display of this awesome device, with these new parts installed, it is going to be a laptop to die for. I highly recommend this laptop to anyone that is looking. Fujitsu, along with Dell, have definitely won me over as being the two best computer manufacturers around. At least, They are the only ones tat I am going to be buying computers from anyway. Thanks!!

Very Responsive Screen - Great for Graphic Design
Date: April 17, 2009
Pros: Design, Screen Size, Weight
Cons: Battery Life, Weight, Keyboard
I have this notebook and love it. It feels really fast when running applications . Very Responsive Screen for all my sketches and drawings. I dont play games in in, use it only for graphics/paint applications. So I don't know how good it is for game play -
MS OneNote is a must have for all Tablets. It doesnt get hot fast - but i dont use it more than 1-2 hr at a time.
Battery life is decent for this class. I am happy with my purchase!

Beware of Video Capability
Date: April 4, 2009
Pros: Design, Battery Life, Screen Size, Durability, Weight, Keyboard
Cons: Features, limited display capability
This computer works fine except that it will not drive external video monitors at widescreen greater tha 1280 x 800. It will do 1600 x 1200 but tha is not wodescreen. This is a real problem in my work. The Fry's techs and I tried using external USB video units and this disabled the tablet function so it is a real problem with using external monitors. I most likely will need to return the unit. The Toshiba I had befopre thi was stolenbut you could plug it into anything and it worked.

so far the best laptop compares to others
Date: April 4, 2009
Pros: Design, Battery Life, Screen Size, Durability, Weight, Features, gigabit ethernet, dvd+dl writer
Cons: Features
the design is sleek. It is compact- just the right size and best of all battery lasts longer than HP and Toshiba's laptops. With Hp and Toshiba, you have to plug in the AC cable all the time cause battery lasts less than an hour. Battery life and the weight are important. I also like the swivel display and gigabit Ethernet port. Other laptops still have 100MB ethernet port. It would be nice if all these good features (sleek silver design, long battery life & gigabit ethernet) are on a 10inch tablet pc with DVD-DL drive and webcam. The only thing I don't like is the price. All of the Fujitsu laptops are so expensive. I think it's over priced.

Outstanding Laptop/ Tablet PC
Date: January 8, 2009
Pros: Design, Battery Life, Screen Size, Durability, Weight, Keyboard, Features, Security, speed, efficiency, processors run quiet and smooth, build quality
Cons: no wwan option, no turbo memory as previously stated
Had my Lifebook T1010 for about 4 months now, and I am more and more impressed with it every single day. The computer runs very quiet and smooth, exceptional connectivity, has a sturdy build and a sleek, sexy design. The display is much more than just mediocre, as some reviews have stated. It is sharp and clear. The size of the laptop is just right. It is light, and I love the way the display pivots fully around. I highly recommend this laptop/ tablet pc to anyone. The only thing I wished it had was the Turbo Memory, as it had originally stated that it came with, and also built-in WWAN option. But the laptop runs so smooth and quiet and fast, there really was no need for the Turbo Memory, which I am sure the techs desided upon prior to build, but just forgot to update Fujitsu website ( they have updated it and edited the Turbo Memory option out now). And the WWAN is really no biggie because everything is going WI-FI. I am a techy guy thought, and like for my things to have all the bells and whistles. (Smiles) That is just me though.
