Just what I was looking for
Date:August 14, 2011
Pros: Weight, Design, Features, Keyboard, versatility
I teach math, and was tired of the old 80's projectors, so I wanted a tablet. But I also wanted ONE laptop I could use for anything and bring everywhere. This is it. It fits in my (slightly over sized) purse, is light enough I don't mind carrying it around, and does everything I need it too. And it was a good price. I was recently in a car accident and the LCD shattered. They not only fixed the screen but also fixed the motherboard (which I had not realized was damaged) and shipped it back to me quickly. Well worth the money for such a versatile machine.

I recommend this tablet
Date:June 30, 2011
Pros: Weight, Design, Keyboard, Screen Size
I recommend this tablet. It has an excellent design, is quite light and solid as well.
Computing speed is suitable for all office automation applications.
Pre-sale service is excellent, I had the need to anticipate of 24 hrs the delivery, and they proved very effective in arranging the scheduling change with fedex!

Great Tablet!!
Date:June 22, 2011
Pros: Weight, Design, Durability, Features, Keyboard
Cons: Battery Life
I've had the TH 700 for about a year now. After having two other tablets (Toshiba M400 and HP TX2000) this is he best I've experienced. Very solid construction. As a teacher, this is a great tool to enhance my classroom and durable enough to withstand the abuse of the students. It would be nice if the battery lasted a little longer. Mine usually lasts about two hours with the screen dimmed.

Best computer I have ever owned
Date:September 22, 2011
Pros: Battery Life, Features, Keyboard, Screen Size
Cons: Weight
I have had this computer for about a month and it is fantastic. The extra battery gives it over 10 hours of almost continuous use, although the trade off is a bit extra weight. The touch interface recognition is wonderful ( as usual with Wacom) I use it to take all my class notes for college in OneNote. It runs very smoothly and handles transitioning between programs very well. It runs ArcGIS 10 like a champ. Overall a very good value and a unique product.

Great Laptop, not just for the tablet
Date:September 12, 2011
Pros: Design, Security, Durability, Battery Life, Features, Keyboard, Screen Size
Cons: Weight, touchpad
This is a quality laptop. The keyboard is a great size and is very tactile. The 12" size is just big enough for movies and the like, but small enough for carrying. Windows 7 has a lot to get used to for an XP user, but feels robust and is full of good features. The sound is pretty rich, at least to someone who's not an audiophile. The battery life is terrific - I got over eight hours once. The screen is nice and bright and easy to clean.
It's powerful enough to handle basic CAD projects and light gaming, which is all I've pushed it to so far, but I think it could take something tougher. Maybe it would need a memory expansion.
The tablet is a lot of fun. I use it for drawing and note-taking. The pen is lightweight (no batteries) and is fairly precise. Finger input is less accurate and it's sometimes hard to hit small buttons or links. I have noticed that the calibration worsens near the edges of the screen, but it isn't such an annoyance. The touchpad is sometimes fickle - it'll make the cursor stick and jump sometimes.
It's heavier and thicker than I thought it would be. Though I understand the need for additional robustness, which this achieves, I sometimes wish it was an iPad.
Overall, I like this laptop. It beats the competition's specs and prices and meets almost every need I can throw at it.

Great tablet!
Date:September 9, 2011
Pros: Weight, Design, Battery Life, Screen Size
Cons: glossy black finish
We recently purchased 3 of these tablets for use in doing clinical documentation with our organization (we upgraded the operating system with our licenses of Windows 7 Enterprise). These are nice, compact units with vividly bright screens that will make it easy for staff to see during the day. I don't necessarily care for the high gloss black finish. Fingerprints show up way too easily, but other than that, we have no complaints!

I have been looking for something to buy my little brother, who likes to draw. This won out in the end due to the hardware and the modular bays that this offered. If you are looking for something to take your drawings to the next level I highly recommend this product line. I am even thinking about buying one.

Great for students + TH700 vs HP tm2 tablet pc
Date:August 9, 2011
Pros: Weight, Design, Durability, Features, Keyboard, Screen Size
disclaimer: a bit biased against hp
about me: I'm a senior in college now. I use my laptop for wordprocessing, internet, entertainment, MS Excel, Powerpoint, and minimal usage of Autocad and Mathcad.
I wanted to get a good, compact, reliable laptop to replace my old, gigantic, slow, overheating (my lap actually got burned when I used it) hp pavilion with a broken hinge (you can tell I've had a bad experience with hp).
About my HP pavilion: bought it brand new in 2008, fan vents were located on the sides and the BOTTOM of the laptop, just last month July 2011 hp recalled the battery in my laptop because a lot of people had overheating problems, probably why my wireless card burned out after less than a year
About my sister's HP tm2 convertible tablet pc:
I will say that comparing hp pav with hp tm2, hp has somewhat improved their design and build.
I compared my sister's HP TM2 and the FUJITSU TH700 before making the decision to buy TH700.
Fujitsu TH700 vs HP tm2:
Same: ~weight, dimensions, comes with stylus, webcam, fingerprint reader, capacitive touchscreen, etc.
HP pros: minimal crevices/gaps, metal finish, crisp, glossy screen, chiclet keyboard (APPLE style copycat)
HP cons: no CD drive, sometimes my sister's hp graphics pixellate, MADE IN CHINA
HP pro or con: bottom half containing keyboard is slanted down---more ergonomic, but less symmetrical and less practical for tablet mode
FUJI pros: built-in but removable CD drive, swivel clasp/latch, better-designed AC adapter, spill proof keyboard, symmetrical/no slants, helpful buttons on screen for tablet mode, pretty glittery black color, so far no problems with graphics card, does not overheat even when running multiple applications, less money/bigger bang for buck IMO, MADE IN JAPAN
FUJI cons: can't think of too many other than that compared to hp, the screen isn't as glossy and the build isn't as seamless and minimalist. But that doesn't bother me because I'm not really a fan of Apple-style minimalism and I prefer Windows OS for schoolwork. Also, the touchpad can be sensitive, but you get used to it.
Why FUJI TH700 is good for STUDENTS:
-light, compact
-great for taking notes in class using keyboard or the stylus which recognizes handwriting and cursive
-saves paper
-can write notes on powerpoint slides in tablet mode during class
-in terms of battery life, I do recommend getting the 2nd modular battery to replace the CD drive if you don't have access to an outlet during class

Cool laptop
Date:August 8, 2011
Pros: Design, Battery Life, Features, Screen Size
Cons: Weight
The touch screen experience is the ultimate laptop. The Lifebook TH700 has Fujitsus overall quality. Fast computer and the battery life about 2 hours under use. I have had an older Fujitsu touchscreen and a Toshiba touchsreen - I would rate the TH700 a superior product.

Good tablet PC for the price
Date:July 21, 2011
Pros: Design, Battery Life, Screen Size, pen/tablet function
Cons: Keyboard, Weight, sensitivity issues
Bought the Lifebook TH700 for school use - I teach on-line courses and wanted a tablet that allowed me to read and mark-up student papers digitally with the pen feature and email back.
I have used a Dell and Gateway tablet in the past that were provided to me by my schools, but my current job required that I purchase my own.
This model was half of what the Dell Tablet costs, and performs almost as well. It is much heavier, and has some senstivity issues due to the touch feature and keyboard keystrokes, which makes writing and editing documents cumbersome.
Otherwise, it does what I want and for the price, so far, it has proven to be a good deal.

Incredible Hardware for the Price
Date:June 16, 2011
Pros: Security, Durability, Keyboard, Screen Size, computing power
Cons: Weight, screen scratch resistance
I've owned the TH700 for about a month now, and I continue to be impressed by the power it has in such a small package. Durable too, I've had it in my back-pack and had my back-pack drop to the floor several times already (doh!) and no ill effects. It runs the few games I put on it quite well, and hardly heats up at all. Even before I took all the bloated pre-installed Fujitsu and Microsoft junk off of it, it ran seamlessly for everyday tasks like documents, web browsing, video streaming, etc. The finger swipe program (omni-pass) is a cool addition too, saving the trouble of typing in a password when in tablet mode. I haven't gotten the screen calibrated exactly like I want it yet, it's a bit of a trial and error process. But the calibration tools seem responsive, and with enough tweaking I think it will be perfect. I also have problems with fat fingers, so sometimes it takes a few tries to hit those little buttons at the edges (especially in Chrome) but that's not Fujitsu's fault. I've build several of my own PC's and I follow the hardware market pretty closely. I researched for a long time before getting this machine, and I can tell you confidently that it is a great deal for the money. To get a Core i3, 4 gigs of DDR3, a 12 inch multi -touch screen, and Windows 7 Home Prem (which I'm upgrading to Pro soon for school) for anything under $1200 is excellent. Also, got a friend who works for a hard-drive company and I told him I thought the shock protection was too sensitive, he told me that's good because HD's are very vulnerable to vibration damage without it. Overall great buy. Screen seems to scratch a little easily though. Also, last little tidbit about customer service. Through a hiccup in my billing (my fault), I ended up getting two of these and getting charged for both. Called Fujitsu and they gave me full refund plus free shipping on the return with little trouble. Took a while for the confirmation to come through, but after I sent it back I got my refund in a timely manner.

Cons: Screen Size, protective sleeve
This machine is quite amazing. i have had this th700 for about 3 weeks now. i bought it because i needed a new laptop for school now and know it will perform in the future as a professional tool. i hated taking notes that were difficult to read back or share with class mates. I am also not a very good typer. now i can hand-write my notes directly into Word on the tablet as well as draw sketches to correspond with teh notes in paint. I have read reviews of people having problems with callibrating teh pen... I have had no problems at all. The only issues i have had with the tablet/pen have been a matter of me getting used to using the machine. i really like how i can touch and drag web pages or word documents as oppoed to "scrolling" down with mouse or arrow keys. The only downfall of this machine is that i have rather large hands and sometimes the things i want to "touch/click" are too small for my fingers, but that is when i "pen" it or zoom/enlarge. (if this thing had an option for a 15" or larger scren for $1,000 i would have bought it. the main vent to release heat is perfectly located so that when i have it in tablet mode in my lap, it pushes the air out to top(left side) I am right handed, but since it swivels either way, anyone should be able to place vent at top rather than in lap. the battery life i have not actually timed. i know that it gets me through 8-9:25 class, hibernate then 9:40-10:55 class with about 30% battery remaining. I haven't even begun to use half of teh features on this thing. i just turned on the web-cam to see quality which looks great, but haven't actually sone any chatting or sending of images. it is easy to tell ths is solid and is built way better than any dell or HP. My one problem with it is that i have yet to figure out how to activate/use teh fingerprint security scanner. i see it and can touch it but the program "authen tec" was not easy to find and even now that i have found it, it apperas to correspond to mouse touch pad. i will be calling fujitsu today to figure this out. i did have some issues finding a good protective sleeve for it that worked for me. i have a backpack that it goes in but wanted some extra protection. finding a stiff one to fit the 12.1" and fit inside the backpack was difficult. (without spending a lot on some high-end cases) i didnt want some flimsy neprene only case with no padding.

Very Poor Quality!!
Date:February 8, 2011
Pros: Keyboard, Screen Size
Cons: Battery Life, Weight, Security, Durability
I got a TH700 in October 2010 and by Feb 2011 it is going to the shop for a possible mother board failure.
The computer just shut down on it's own now only the power button goes on temporarily and the num/scroll lock buttons blink green.
After talking to support the person said it was most likely a MB failure and needed to go into the shop. Lucky it's under warranty as this was a rather expensive investment.
Says much about the quality of this particular model as it may look nice but is very poorly made it seems.
I am very disappointed in this purchase and will not buy another Fujitsu laptop again.
Just a heads up to all buyers thinking of getting a fujitsu.

Great Product despite a Few Quirks
Date:February 5, 2011
Pros: Weight, Design, Security, Battery Life, Features, Screen Size
Cons: Design
I bought this product primarily for note taking and it does a more than adequate job of that. The system runs cool and is relatively quiet. In addition
- it has a very appealing design
- it has a wonderful battery life . I'm currently getting close to 5 hours
- gives good connectivity with my wireless router
- comes with useful software e.g. Windows Journal, in my case
- is of a manageable weight
However, there are a few quirks.
- Depending on how one sits, one may be blocking the light sensor, causing the screen to darken. It would be much better if it were placed elsewhere, possibly along the top right of the screen.
-The arrangement of the USB ports is for me a bit inconvenient. I would prefer to have two on the side (side by side) as opposed to one at the side and two at the back. As they are currently it may be a bit difficult to plug two devices into the back ports, if either of the two is bulky.
-The touch functionality does not work as well as it should along the borders of the screen. You may, for example have difficulty closing tabs with small buttons or using the scroll bar along the side of the window using your finger. This can be overcome by using the stylus but is inconvenient at times.
- Sometimes the cursor jumps randomly when I'm typing even though I'm not touching the touchpad, as far as I can tell.
- Also sometimes using the back and forward flicks takes you in the desired direction by two pages instead of one. I imagine that there is some sensitivity setting that could rectify this.
-When I'm using the tablet in portrait mode, I would prefer to grip the top edge as opposed to the side. However, the vent is where I would naturally place my hand. If I invert the tablet the vent is against my body and being blocked. I guess that with time I will grow accustomed to holding the side.
Those things withstanding, this tablet is still a lovely machine and is a great deal for the price.

Excellent, but glitches in features
Date:January 1, 2011
Pros: Design, Battery Life, Features, Keyboard, Screen Size
Cons: software glitches in pen and touch, wifi
Since 2005 this is my third Tablet PC after Acer Travelmate, and HP (tx 2000). Overall, this is an excellent convertible tablet PC. That said, it does have quite a few annoyances that hopefully software updates will resolve.
Hardware related:
a) WiFi. The WiFi (Atheros AR9287) performance is very poor. Where even my Droid X holds hasteady WiFi connectivity, this one consistently shows weak signal and keeps dropping it. 10ft. from the router it shows 3 bars! This low level of performance is visible everywhere (over 6 different WiFi locations) I have used it at.
b) Touchpad/Input. Something (I have not been able to nail down the cause), keeps causing the cursor to randomly reposition in the screen while typing. I have closely observed it and nothing is touching the screen or the touchpad. Quite annoying actually.
Software/Interface:
There are numerous issues.
a) When connected to a projector with resolution different from the tablet, the touch calibration does not resize. Also, if you rotate the display after connecting to the projector, it loses the multiple display, stops projecting and changes in resolution going back to default screen!
b) Stand-alone use: On rotation, the pen calibration does not rotate with the screen. (I just downloaded the Wacom pen update, will try). Funny thing is the touch calibration rotates. I just end up having to rotate the display to normal to match the pen.
c) Ambient light sensor is finicky and the position of it makes it very problematic to turn on the feature. I would love it if it worked well like the ambient light sensor does on my phone. Definitely needs redesign and relocation (perhaps adjacent to the camera?).
Pros:
a) Keyboard feel is excellent.
b) Runs really cool, and can actually use it in my lap without need for external tray/cooling pad.
c) Very responsive, and great performance
d) Battery power lasts long
e) Display is crisp, clear, and even on low brightness works well.
--- suggestions for improvement
a) backlight for the keyboard?
b) Ambient light sensor relocation
c) See above for updates needed to software.

I love my TH700
Date:December 14, 2010
Pros: Design, Battery Life, Features, Keyboard, Screen Size
Cons: Weight, sound flaw
I love this box. I use the heck out of onenote and this box rocks for that. Whether commuting & prepping for the day or chillin' at home watching a movie. This thing screams. Granted I bumped it to 8 gigs b/c I run VMs on it. I can't tell you how much I dig it. Anyway, I only have 2 complaints about it. Once you log into windows 7 the start up sound just gets choppy as Hades. It drives me nuts. That and the fingerprint sensing software just looks clunky and cheapens the whole startup/login. Other than that, I think Fujitsu has won over a customer for life. Great product, excellent design, solid feel, great form factor, 8 GIGs potential in a freakin tablet. That's a dream come true for a code monkey.

Helpful little hottie
Date:November 8, 2010
Pros: Weight, Design, Security, Durability, Battery Life, Features, Keyboard, Screen Size, tablet form on laptop
Cons: side view of led screen, wireless could be stonger
I ordered this laptop to replace an Aging Toshiba. It had become to bulky to carry around and I wanted something smaller and lighter. I figured I would try a tablet and see what they were all about and this seemed to be a great crossover tablet / laptop. Well, I never realized how usefull a tablet is. I now use it to browse the internet and read kindle books while I am in bed or on the couch. The finger touchpad far beats mouse clicking for browsing and any typing I have to do while browsing is easyly done with the virtual keypad which works flawlesly. Yes it may be a little heavy for a tablet / pad but when I put it to work on the job as a laptop you wouldnt know you had a tablet and now my arms and shoulders dont hurt from carrying it. The only draw back is the screen. I have read some reveiws which made me worrisome about this aspect but they exagerated the problem. The LED is bright and very readable. Videos work well but becuase it is an LED side viewing is not what it should be especially from the left side. Straight on it is great and this seems hardly to be worth mentioning. My LCD seems to remember which way I view in tablet mode and automatically switches to that direction. Battery life about 3 hours or less. Finger sensor far easier than password and works great. Sound not bad for a small unit a little to much echo. Wireless not as strong as my old Toshiba. All and all I am very happy with it and it has opened my eyes to tablets/pads. They are the wave of the future. This experience has made me a kindle book fan without a kindle.

Pros: Weight, Design, Security, Durability, Features, Keyboard
I purchased this laptop to replace a 5-year-old, 14-inch Dell that weighed about 7 lbs. So, although others describe the TH700 as heavy, to me it feels very light (I guess it’s all relative!). The weight-saver is a nice feature, although the DVD drive doesn’t weigh a whole lot, so it only makes a slight difference.
Aesthetically, the laptop looks a lot prettier than in the online photos – I was pleasantly surprised when I received it. It has a glossy exterior case, but a matte bezel around the screen. I didn’t think I wanted a glossy case because of fingerprints, but they wipe off easily with the provided cloth, and the gloss makes it look more modern. The rounded edges are nice, too. The screen itself is anti-glare – to me it seems somewhere midway between a glossy screen and a matte screen. I have used outside, and although you can see a slight reflection, I have had no problems at all viewing the screen outdoors.
I’ve been getting about 3 hours battery life. I plan to buy the modular battery to extend this a bit. I love the WiFi on/off switch – it’s handy for saving battery life and for use on airplanes.
I love having so many input options. For prolonged use, I hook up a USB mouse, because I don’t like using the track pad. But sometimes I literally have to pause and think, “Should I move the mouse? Use the trackpad? Touch the screen with my fingers? Use the stylus pen? Use the keyboard?” It’s fun having so many options. It’s also handy that you can program the buttons next to the screen to do basically whatever you want. This way, when you’re in tablet mode, you can use your most frequent functions literally with the press of a button. The keyboard is a good size and comfortable to type on.
The onscreen keyboard has worked fine for me when in tablet mode, and you can resize it to your preference. I have actually been able to type on it reasonably well. The handwriting recognition is a cool feature, although for someone who’s never used it before, it takes some getting used to. I get more efficient with it all the time. But if I need to do anything typing-intensive, it’s always easiest to switch to laptop mode and use the actual keyboard.
I’ve had only a few issues:
1) I have had the same issue as others with the pen not working close to the edge of the screen. I have found that using my finger to touch the corner of the screen (e.g. to close windows when they are maximized) works better than the pen (although still not perfectly). But other than the very edges of the screen, the touch input with both pen and finger work beautifully.
2) I have also experienced the problem with the screen orientation changing (i.e. from portrait to landscape) when I didn’t want it to (e.g. when opening a new application). This is easily remedied by pressing the orientation button a few times until it is back where you wanted it; but it’s a bit annoying to have to do that.
3) The left Control key is finicky. Sometimes it does not recognize that I have pressed it down (which is annoying when I’m trying to do Ctrl-C to copy, because if it doesn’t recognize the Control key, it ends up replacing my text with the letter C) - same goes if you use shortcuts to bold, italicize, etc. No problems with the right Control key, so I’ve just had to train myself to use that one instead.
4) I had problems viewing YouTube videos in Firefox – the videos would constantly freeze, requiring me to force quit the browser. This happened nearly every time I tried to view a video. I’ve recently (begrudgingly) switched to using Internet Explorer, and the freezing (so far) has not been an issue with Explorer.
5) The fingerprint reader is a great feature, but it will not seem to recognize my left thumb, which is the finger I’d prefer to use. It recognizes all my other fingers fine, though. Maybe it’s something about my particular thumb.
Other than the issues with Youtube videos on Firefox, this computer has run all programs flawlessly (although I haven’t tried anything super intense like 3D gaming). It is very fast for everyday applications.
I wasn’t sure whether I really needed a touchscreen, but I enjoy having it (and after using it for just a couple of months, I now find myself trying to touch the screen of ALL laptops, only to be disappointed when nothing happens). The touchscreen makes games so much more fun. Solitaire is great – just drag the cards with your finger. The included MS touchpack games are fun (I particularly love MS Blackboard- a physics based game. I also purchased a game called Crayon Physics which is fun to play with the stylus pen).
Overall I am extremely happy with this purchase. The laptop is responsive, works great, and I’ve encountered only a few minor glitches that have been totally manageable in exchange for all the great features this tablet provides. Whenever I show it to anyone, they are jealous and immediately want one!
